What Fun!

Oh what fun!

So I had to take my friend to a class this morning at the crack of dawn.  We got on the road, she got to her class and all was well until I got home..

I came home to find an odd noise coming from my water heater closet. After listening for a minute, I realized that the hissing noise was running water and now it was my job to figure out the cause of the noise and shut it off.   Of course, I have the 'um, this cannot be good' moment in my brain that goes into crisis aversion mode because this is water and water breaks can be costly.  Luckily,  I found my handy dandy flashlight without having to go searching the whole condo and very cautiously opened the water heater closet.

The sound grew louder once I did that so I started looking for the water shut off valve.  Once that was found, I shut it off and started to assess the situation.  Water was spewing out of the water heater, all over the bottom of the closet, like a cow taking a piss.

At that point, I'm thinking 'Great, just great.  What a wonderful way to start a Sunday morning!'  Anyway....I call my ex-boyfriend because he's been working with water heaters for 20+ years and figure maybe there is something he knows that I can do to stop this.

Me: So the water was running like the heater couldn't fill up and there's heaps of water leaking out of the bottom of it now.

Him:  Well, it's got a leak.

Me: Thank you, Captain Obvious.  What can I do to stop the leaking?

Him:  Call a plumber.

Ha ha ha....Well duh!  Call a plumber! I swear, his simpleton ways and advice still make me laugh even from 2500 miles away. Call a plumber! Now the only problem there is this is a rental so I get to have the wonderful pleasure of calling my landlord to get it fixed.

I swear, it's on days like this that I miss owning my own home and being back in NM.  See, by now, 1 hour post incident, I would have been able to call my buddy who's a plumber, and my dad and have them come check it out.  My buddy would have seen what needed to be done, given me the estimate and things would be moving right along splendidly.

Ahh...those days are gone though.  :(  And now I get to take a cold shower until my lovely landlord calls me back or calls a plumber to fix that bloody thing.....
Oh, what fun!
