They own me...ha ha

I was reading an article today about cats when I got home from school. The article was about how cats 'know' us so well that they have adapted their behavior to get us to do what they want us to do. My first response to the title was, "NO duh!" Anyone who's ever been owned by a cat knows this. I guess they've finally put some science behind it and proved it. HA!

For instance, domestic cats will use a certain purr combined with a higher than normal mew when they're hungry and they want to be fed. I can attest to this fact because my four cats do this, all the time. They know what to do and how to do it to get my attention.

My male cats are the worst about it too. Odin likes to sit and stare at me first thing in the morning when my head is still on the pillow as if to say "Mom, please, we're hungry and we're such good children. Don't let us starve to death." He knows better then to mew in my face until I am up so I usually wake up to his luscious pumpkin orange eyes, wide at the ready pleading with me to hurry up outta bed because he needs something.

Once I wake up, he meows to let me know that he and his tribe should be at the top of my priorty list. He can be impatient somedays especially if he or his brother Grayson can see the bottom of the bowl. I laugh because their kibble bowl doesn't even need to be empty for them to beg.

Another quality that cats have which is probably less humourous than the previously mentioned one is their ability to sense when something is wrong, either with their owner or just in general. I call this their holistic spirit.

My oldest cat Ahjah is famous for this quality. One boyfriend when he didn't feel good, would call her onto the bed. She'd get close to him, sense what part of his body was ailing him and then calmly and cautiously lie down on the body part or near it to offer her holistic healing. He nicknamed her holistic Ahjah as a result.

Today, she is climbing all over me, attempting to lay on my head or near it because I have one of my horrific migraines today. Somehow she knows so she's driven to help ease my pain. I'm so lucky to get to live with these inspirational creatures even though their litter box smells and they shed on everything.

I don't own them. They own me.
