One thing I love about travelling is that every state has it's own charm and eccentricies. In New Mexico, for example, once you get out of the city limits of Albuquerque, the speed limits change from 65 to 75 and eventually to 85. In Santa Fe, no building is over I believe 4 stories high and it has to be built in the "southwestern" style of adobe.
In less than a week, I've been moved to a hotel in Mt. Laurel, NJ. I never really thought much of NJ since the only times I've ever been here was to see the Newark airport for many hours one night when they cancelled my flight to Boston. At some point that evening, I was told to board a bus. After that incident, I didn't have a very high opinion of New Jersey.
Anyway...one thing that has been striking me as a bit odd is that when we drive to-and-from the hotel, you are not allowed to make any left turns. Huh? Jug handles, a fancy way of saying a clover leaf, are everywhere and you cannot make a left turn. Left hand turns are NOT allowed!!
How bizarre. I wonder why they did this to their road system. It's not like I have a predaliction for left hand turns, but to banish them like this seems a bit extreme to me.
So I'm now living outta a suitcase in Mt. Laurel NJ. New Freaking Jersey...sorta reminds me of New Freaking Mexico...ha ha ha....
At my last hotel in Center City, it was right in the heart of Philadelphia, walking distance from so many historical buildings and landmarks. I could see Logan Square from my hotel room which was great, but at the same time kind of disappointing because I am working so much that by the end of the day, I don't feel like walking all over town being a tourist.
Being out here in New Jersey away from the city has been a complete pleasure. For some odd reason, it feel more like 'home' even though it isn't. The food at the hotel is better and cheaper. I'm meeting nicer people and honestly, I don't want to go back to a Philadelphia hotel.
Granted, it's made the commute much longer, but oh well. I really miss being able to drive around. I'm very very sick of the transportation arrangements. I know the people running it are doing a good job, but still. I miss my car. I want a car. My father and I have been talking about getting me a car out here...but then, *sigh* he's not quite sure. I get that....bleah....
*sigh* You know they say that people in hell want ice water, but that doesn't mean they get it. I wonder if they want to turn left too.
Hahahaha...reminds me of downtown Columbus, OH...the mecca of one-way streets!...to get ANYWHERE...ya gotta make that "clover-leaf" you spoke of...and GOD FORBID you accidentaly drive PAST where you wanna be!
ReplyDeleteAs for being a Jersey Girl...fa-gedda bout it! There...do you feel more at home there now? Look at it this way...maybe you can pick up some pointers for playing Mafia Wars on Facebook while you're there!
As for the car....Hahahaha! Look at it as a chance to save some money (and points)...I mean...you did say the speed limits are different...right? Hahaha!
Take care!
