Do you believe in magic?

Yesterday was a magical day for me. Don't ask me why I feel the way I do about it because I can in no way explain it.

I got called to work as an extra in a hit tv show which to me is just so amazing. And how did it go, you ask? Well.... VERY well in fact. I LOVE that industry. I love the people the cameras. It's completely magical to me and probably always will be.

SO how did the day go? well I got there nearly late because I was driving like a fool and forgot to turn left on the street. I was so worried that they would send me packing, but alas they didn't. Of course once I signed in, then it was time to coffee and food. I'm always amazed at the food they have at these things. See, they set up a big tent and there are generally 3-4 chefs at various stations that will make you pretty much anything. Yesterday, they had a burrito, omlette and some other station. The food is always sooo good too. I, of course, was too damn excited and tired to eat so I settled for a lovely cup of coffee.

While I was drinking my coffee, I met a guy named R. He was new to being an extra and started to chat me up about it. He was asking questions about what do we do, where is the set etc etc.....I told him that right now they were just organizing us and later on, they'd take us down there and give us instructions. I told him it would be fun, no matter what and he laughed.

At some point in the morning, wardrobe came around and checked out our clothing. One of them had the best purple/blue hair I had ever seen and was so nice. Now, I had been wearing a yellow shirt, but they decided to should wear a green shirt. The one wardrobe lady laughed when she saw how many changes of clothes I brought, but I figured it'd be better to be prepared then not. See, during my last experience I brought one change of clothes and the wardrobe lady looked at me funny.

So I changed into my new shirt, checked my face, makeup and proceeded to walk out of the changing room. Wouldn't you know it though, I am a complete spaz! I spilled my coffee on the new shirt I was wearing! It was damn funny! I made a mad dash back into the changing room and got the coffee off my shirt thank god...but it left a huge water spot. I was embarrassed but just kept laughing about it because it was funny. Luckily, it was a nice dry day yesterday and it dried quickly.

Anyway, the scene we were shooting was in a park. My 'role' was 'park parent' (yeah, go ahead and laugh because I don't have kids). They wrangled us up, got us into vans and took us down to the park where they were shooting. Now, it was a big park and all of us extras were in our holding area, freezing. I was like 'fuck this' and I went and stood in the sun. At that point people started talking more. The little kids were so cute too. One of them, K. was a little charmer. He had one of those leash things on which was a monkey and some of us were talking to him about it. Funniest thing I heard all day was 'Yeah, I have a monkey and it's on my back!' from that little man. It was cute.

After an hour or so, we were finally needed. I was paired up with R. as his 'wife'. OMG, we were joking about it the whole way out there. Anyway, they had us sitting on a blanket, pretending to talk and read the paper. R. was nervous so I reassured him not to be. I told him to NOT look at the camera and just do what they told us do. As they were setting up the scene, we finally got to see the main actors. I have to say I was impressed, but of course, people always look a bit different in person then they do on camera. Case in point, look at my photos.

Mary McCormack is so pretty and from what I can tell, fun to work with. We're not allowed to talk to them, but we can watch and I was very impressed with her. Fred Waller was cool too. He seemed very laid back and sort of in his own element. In fact, when we finished the scene, I didn't realize he was right in front of me when I went to get some water and I damn near ran into him. Now that would have been a sight!

Anyway....we watched them shoot the close-ups and we hung out. Then they changed the angle on the same scene and again, we 'background' people were called out again. For that part, I got to hang out with another really cool guy, C. Turns out C. is a professor of theatre and has done tons of work. While we were waiting, we talked and talked and talked about acting, theatre, teaching, and a whole slew of other things. He was such a gem and I hope to god he has great success.(yeah, I know I hope that for everyone) For that part of the scene, we walked accross the park again and again. Sounds boring, but for some reason, it's not to me.

Now once that was done, they moved us to the second location, a house. They weren't sure if they were going to use us extras anymore, which was ok because alot of us were tired. They set us up in holding and we sat around talking.

*draft* there are more pressing matters at hand.
